AMENITIES:

Bike Racks on Bobcat Tram Buses:

All intercity buses are equipped with bicycle racks allowing you to travel to the bus stop or to your final destination using your bike.  Each bus will transport up to three bicycles, these racks are available on a first come, first served basis.  Racks are extremely easy to use; bicycles can be loaded on the bus in as little as 15 seconds.  Ask your driver before you deploy the rack or walk in front of the bus to remove your bike.  If this is your first time using a bicycle rack, give us a call at 245.2585 for additional information or to set up a demonstration... Enjoy!

All Intercity buses have wireless access to the internet.  If your portable computer is WiFi capable, you can cruise to class or work while catching up on emails or surf the net.  It’s free and easy.

WHY DID Bobcat Tram OPEN INTERCITY ROUTES TO THE PUBLIC?

Air Quality:  This new route serves the San Antonio region.  San Marcos, which is within the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), has the potential to be designated in nonattainment of the Federal 8-hour ozone air quality standard by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) due to unhealthy air quality levels that occur primarily during the summer months. In an effort to avoid nonattainment designation, Bobcat Tram and Texas State is participating in a regional Early Action Compact with other local governments in the Austin-Round Rock MSA in an effort to reduce pollutants that contribute to ground level ozone. By replacing old diesel engines with new clean diesel engines in early 2007 the Intercity Connector service stands to reduce ozone pollutants by almost 50 pounds per day!  San Antonio has also entered into an early action compact with the EPA; Bobcat Tram and Texas State will work to document and report emission reductions for the San Antonio area for their report to the EPA and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Texas State University - San Marcos is also one of 33 State "Government Partners" who have pledged a commitment to improve air quality in the state of Texas. Charter partners are committed to promoting commute solutions that include vanpools, carpools, public transit, telecommuting and flexible work schedules. This new service is the first step in the fulfillment of that pledge.
